I have just contacted Rep. Eileen Cody to congratulate her on her re-election.
From the beginning, my campaign and I knew that this would be a tough campaign. We were challenging a 21 year incumbent Democrat is a largely Democratic district, as Republicans. During the Primary my entire campaign staff was made of two friends who were under the age of 21 and we were able to gather over 5,000 votes to move on to the General Election.
Over the past few months, my family, my campaign staff and I knocked on hundreds of doors, handed out hundreds of flyers and met with many different people. We were out spent more than 10 to 1, but that didn’t stop us. In the end, we have received just under 9,000 votes and as the election officials are still count I am confident that we will pass the 9,000 mark and close in on 10,000. I can not be more grateful to all the people who have given their support to me.
I would specifically like to thank my campaign Treasurer and Campaign Manager for all their support and hard work. I would like to that the 34th District Republicans for their support as well. And I would also like to thank my mother and father, who were out there almost everyday with me knocking on doors and handing out flyers. None of this would have ever happened without them. I would also like to thank all of you who have encouraged me and supported me over the past few months; words cannot express how thankful I am for you. This is not the end. There will be time to run again, but now I am glad to return to the life of a private citizen. I will see you all in 2018!
Thank you, Matthew Benson 11/10/2016
