11th and 12th Grade Apprenticeships and Goals for the Future
College is a good thing. It is a tool to educate our society at an even higher level than ever before seen in history. It is where some of our smartest come from. It's also very expensive. Many students go to college without knowing what they want to study, they then graduate with a degree that they will most likely not use, with a massive amount of debt in student loans. This is why I will push for programs that would encourage 11th and 12th graders to spend those last two years of High School figuring out what they want to study at college, or even if they want to go to college. This will help them to purse the field that they want to study, through the form of job mentoring and apprenticeships.
These are our future leaders of many different fields, they deserve all the help they can get in following their dreams.
Our State Government is clearly spending too much and burning a hole in our wallets. There is currently about a 10 billion dollar deficit between what our state brings in through revenue (i.e. taxes, fines, etc.) and what our state spends.
Each one of these pallets representing about 100 million dollars. In this picture there is about 1 billion dollars. Visualize what 10 billion dollars looks like, you would need 100 of these pallets. That is a lot of money. I want to cut our state's spending so that we will be able to start paying back our debts and reducing the cost of government to the citizens. I would do this through proposing legislation similar to the Penny Plan that was proposed in Congress. Basically what the Penny Plan does, is it cuts one penny off of every dollar spent by the Federal Government or in this case, the State Government. This would equate to about one percent being cut from every department .The state legislature can deem some programs too critical to decrease, in turn they would have to cut more from other programs. If this plan was implanted on our state's current spending, it would cut around 700 million dollars. I would have this legislation sunset once we had reached a point where our revenue is equal or greater than what our state government is spending.
Government's primary role is to protect and defend the rights of it's citizens. Government's job is not to regulate what goes on in the bedroom or bathroom of citizens, it should not be concerned with your personal life. I want to return the power back to you, so you can do what you will with your life as long as it does not violate the rights of others.
